The modem housing usually is made of steel or plastic. It contains the modem circuitry, a power supply, and a small speaker. The speaker allows the user to monitor the progress of a call. The front of the housing is usually transparent, so the indicator lights may be seen. Connectors on the back, link the modem with phone lines, the computer, and its power cable.
